Sunstate Carriers of Tavares, Florida, is a truckload refrigerated fleet that primarily operates east of Texas. Since its “rebirth” in 2000, the business has grown to a fleet of more than 100 rigs by being sensitive to customers’ needs and maintaining the highest levels of integrity and honesty.
To help manage fuel costs and engine idle time, all new tractors are being equipped with Thermo King’s TriPac auxiliary idle reduction and temperature management system.
Upon their return, drivers fuel their tractor and reefer at the carrier’s on-site two-island fuel facility which has a storage capacity of 10,000 gallons.
The fleet’s refrigerated trailers are all 53-foot long Great Dane and Utility Trailer models with air-ride suspensions and Thermo Kings refrigeration units. The latest units are high-capacity SB-III SR+ models with Whisper technology.
Sunstate Carriers uses a PeopleNet mobile communications system that provides GPS satellite tracking and two-way, in-vehicle data and voice communications.
There is experienced team of 13 service technicians to maintain the 230-vehicle fleet.
The maintenance operation, which functions around the clock, does all types of service and repair, including minor body work.
In addition to the service center that has three bays for tractors and five bays tractors, there is a separate facility that serves as the fleet’s tire shop.
The keys to Sunstate Carriers success, says owner Richard Baugh, are to surround yourself with good people, be honest with them and customers, and deliver on your promises, even when there may be additional cost involved.
